In November 1999, the Department of Finance at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin created the first Real Estate Finance and Investment Center at a major university. The Center’s purpose is to support curriculum development in real estate at McCombs as well as to support faculty research and development.

The Center takes advantage of an exceptional faculty that expands diverse backgrounds in real estate and finance. Today’s real estate companies have a growing necessity for well-trained managers in areas such as financial analysis, project evaluation, as well as equity and debt securitization. The Center’s goal is to meet that need at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The Center is led by director Jay Hartzell, Ph.D.

  • April 2008: McCombs MBA real estate students win 1st Place at the NAIOP "Texas Shoot-Out" Case Competition in Dallas

  • Feb 2008: McCombs MBA real estate students win 1st Place at the UNC Real Estate Development Challenge
