8th Annual Real Estate Career Day held September 28, 2007

Real Estate Career Day is an informational event held every September for McCombs BBA and MBA students to learn more about the real estate industry and the leading real estate companies who may soon employ them.

The 2007 Career Day attendance by students and industry professionals far exceeded the attendance in recent years.  The new format of the company table portion of the event, as well as moving the start time earlier in the morning, are credited with this improvement.

The event began at 11am with Company Table Speed Rounds.

This concept, similar to the recent fad of speed dating, allowed the students in small groups to speak with most of the company representatives for 3 minutes each.  At the end of the three minutes, a whistle indicated to the students that it was time to advance to the next table.  During the speed rounds, the students were able to learn about the background of the company and entry level job possibilities.

A networking lunch was held directly following the speed rounds.  This allowed the students to have more lengthy conversations with the companies in which they had the most interest.

Mark Gibson, Executive Managing Director of HFF, gave a speech following the networking lunch.  He spoke about his experience in the industry and how he has been able to achieve such success.

The event ended with a panel discussion involving leading industry professionals.

The 2007 panelists represented companies from varied real estate specializations and provided the students with more insight into careers in the industry.
